"The degradation of our natural resources is a significant barrier to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals to reduce poverty, hunger, and disease. In a broader context human activities have eroded our natural resources and environment so as to bring the planet to the edge of a massive wave of species extinctions, threatening our own well-being" (UN-led Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, 2005).

ZIEM envisions an increasingly urgent call for change to re-connect society and nature through climate change mitigation and adaptation responses that requires clear, immediate efforts in sustainability education and awareness.

Within this context, ZIEM and its partners designed and implemented the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMA), Tracking Climate finance in flows from public and private  and well as participating in national Monitoring Reporting and Verifications (MRV Finance) Program Sponsored by OECD. ZIEM performed highly successful climate finance capacity-building works and is in the process of developing climate resource mapping in Zambia.
