Zambia Institute of Environmental Management (ZIEM) is a member based institution registered as non governmental organization in Zambia. Formally established in 2006. it was created to add value to the environmental sector by fostering greater cooperation and information sharing among environmental institutions. ZIEM strengthen coordination and coherence between institutions dealing with issues related to all aspects of environmental management, environmental governance, climate change ,policy and practice , advocacy & lobbying.
ZIEM has set up programmes in environmental training, evidence based advocacy, policy and practice and has conducted national and international projects on environmental and natural resources issues, Including:

OUR PRINCIPLES
The Zambia Institute of Environmental Management seeks to help build sustainable development values based on environmental responsiveness. Our Institute is based on the following principles and beliefs:
1. We will act independently and objectively to provide knowledge on the environmental implications of development for the good of all present and future generations
2. We believe that everybody has a responsibility to think and act sustainably and has the duty to care for environment; environmental problems affect everybody
3. We will assist the governing institutions that address environmental problems to improve engagement with and accountability to the people they serve.
4. We will carry out activities according to best practice and develop the institution based on the internationally shared set of values on sustainable development

The mission statement of Zambia Institute of Environmental Management is to promote environmental, management, governance and justice in both the private and public sectors in Zambia and beyond, through Training, Advocacy, Lobbying, Practice and Policy.
Values
Realization of ZIEM’s Vision and Mission requires staff to develop and uphold qualities and behaviour that goes beyond a mere call of duty. The Institute has a set of Values that everyone associated with it must practice and lives up to. Our aspiration is that Institute’s clients must be able to attest to the display of these values in their interaction with ZIEM employees at all levels. SECRETARIATE
The Secretariat is the Executive arm of Zambia Institute of Environmental Management (ZIEM). This is headed by the Executive Director who is the Chief Executive officer of the Institute. Apart from the day to day administration and management of the Affairs of ZIEM, the Executive Director is also the Secretary of the Board.
ZIEM's Professional Capability
ZIEM has a pool of diversely qualified and experienced professionals working across the five units who are actively involved in advancing the Institute’s training, research and project implementation.
In addition, ZIEM has a pool of eminent, experienced and qualified specialists and consultants in environmental management who work alongside their full time colleagues, to supplement on skills, expertise and experiences in the environmental training and research.
As a matter of policy, the Institute strives for the highest standards of professionalism in the services that it offers to its clients. This is in line with its Motto “Excellence in environmental governance”.
