& Policy Engagement

The Platform also advocates for strengthening of the administrative structures for delivery of social protection programs such as the Development Welfare Assistance Committees (DWACs), Area Coordinating Committees (ACCs), and Community Welfare Assistance Committees (CWACs). Further the Platform has continued to engage in strategic partnerships with likeminded organisations in research and advocacy around social protection.

PSP Zambia’s focus for advocacy is the development of evidence based advocacy that is informed by well-established and sustainable researches and monitoring activities that are able to influence policy both at national and local levels. This is done through monitoring of the government implemented Social Cash Transfers (SCT’s) and Public Welfare Assistance Scheme (PWAS) and commissioning of researches and analyses to influence policy. Through its district member organization, PSP Zambia has been engaged in monitoring of the government implemented Social Cash Transfer (SCT) and Public Welfare Assistance Scheme (PWAS). PSP has been monitoring the government’s SCT and PWAS on a quarterly basis in order to hold government accountable on the delivery of Social Protection programs.

The intended outcomes of the program include more rational policies, legislation and programs for social protection, pro-poor decision making in targeting for social protection, increased budgetary allocations to Social Protection programs and more inclusive decision making through community engagement. This should ultimately result in well targeted Social Protection schemes that benefit the intended beneficiaries.

The Platform has since inception been advocating for the development of Social Protection framework. PSP Zambia coordinated the engagement of civil society organizations in social protection and ensured the adequate representation of social protection in the Six National Development Plan (SNDP). The Platform is currently participating in the Sector Advisory Group for Social Protection and has been part of the Technical Working Group during the formulation of the National Social Protection Policy.
