Networking

Information &

Coalition Building

The objective of this program is to strengthen coordination of CSOs working on Social Protection at all levels. The information and networking program within the Platform intends to enhance coordination of CSO and other actors in Social Protection as well as increase media and other key stakeholders’ attention to Social Protection in the country. Building a credible coalition of social protection supporters and champions is critical to public, political and policy support to social protection. This is a core function of the networking program area and is done with likeminded organisations and identified key stakeholders to the agenda of social protection.

PSP Zambia is also cognisant of the fact that achieving this level of support will require both public and technical confidence in the image of the organisation. To this extent therefore, the platform has been branding and publicizing itself and social protection as its brand concept through media awareness, production of Social Protection materials and website maintenance.

The objective of capacity building is to Strengthen CSO and Communities to participate in Social Protection Policies and Programs. The intended outcomes of this program area are to increase the caliber of CSOs advocating for Social Protection as well as to increase the capacity of communities demand for as well as become joint advocates for Social Protection programs in the country. This will help to strengthen oversight for government implemented Social Protection programs by increasing the competence of both CSOs and communities to hold government accountable.

PSP has also been conducting Members of Parliament field visits to provide MPs with an opportunity to ascertain the impacts of social protection programs particularly the social cash transfer and to highlight the role of parliamentarians in supporting social cash transfers, broaden their understanding of social protection and its role in alleviating extreme poverty and hunger in Zambia, arm MP’s with practical knowledge of social protection in order to improve debate on social protection on the floor of Parliament. Get the buy in of MP’s on social protection programs and emerge with social protection champions in Zambia from among the MP’s •
